Earth's Ancient Gems
Rooted in the Americas — Guatemalan Jade • Canadian Nephrite • Mexican Amber • American Turquoise
JADEscape was built on a single conviction: that the most extraordinary gemstones in the world are found in the Americas, and that they deserve to be told with the same depth and reverence given to stones from any corner of the earth. Our foundation is Guatemalan jadeite — the rarest and most historically significant jade in the Western Hemisphere. From that cornerstone, we have grown to embrace Canadian nephrite, Mexican amber, and American turquoise: four stones, one hemisphere, one unbroken story of earth, culture, and craft.
Our Foundation: Guatemalan Jadeite
Jadeite is the rarer of the two jade minerals, and Guatemala's Motagua Valley is one of only a handful of places on earth where gem-quality jadeite is found. It was the sacred stone of the ancient Maya — used for royal masks, ceremonial axes, and offerings to the gods of rain and maize. The Maya did not merely value jade; they considered it the most precious substance in existence, more valuable than gold. At JADEscape, our direct relationships with Guatemalan sources allow us to offer jadeite of documented origin, in the full spectrum of colors the Motagua Valley produces: from imperial greens to the rare lavender, black, and the luminous blues we call Princesa Blue and Mayan Blue.
Our Second Pillar: Canadian Nephrite
Nephrite jade from British Columbia is among the finest in the world — a dense, fibrous stone of extraordinary toughness, ranging from deep forest greens to pale celadon. Canada is one of the world's largest producers of nephrite, and British Columbian jade carries its own rich story: it has been used by First Nations peoples of the Pacific Northwest for thousands of years, crafted into tools, ceremonial objects, and adornments that speak to the same reverence for jade found across the Pacific in China and Japan. At JADEscape, we source Canadian nephrite as a complement to our Guatemalan jadeite — a second voice in the same conversation about what jade means in the Americas.
The Companions: Amber & Turquoise from the Americas
Every great story has context. For jade, that context includes two other stones that traveled the same ancient trade routes, were revered by the same civilizations, and are found in the same remarkable hemisphere. Mexican amber and American turquoise are not additions to our collection — they are completions of it.
Mexican Amber — Chiapas
Formed 22–26 million years ago in the ancient forests of Chiapas, Mexican amber was sacred to the Maya as a resin of the earth — burned as incense, worn as amulets, and offered in ceremony. Its warm honey and cognac tones carry the light of a prehistoric sun. We source exclusively from Chiapas, the historic heartland of New World amber.
American Turquoise — Southwest USA
Turquoise from the mines of the American Southwest — including storied sources in Arizona and New Mexico — has been sacred to the Navajo, Zuni, Hopi, and Ancestral Puebloan peoples for millennia. It traveled south along ancient trade routes to the workshops of Teotihuacan, where it was inlaid alongside jade in the most sacred objects of Mesoamerican civilization. We source American turquoise with the same origin-first approach we apply to every stone we carry.
One Hemisphere, One Philosophy
What unites Guatemalan jadeite, Canadian nephrite, Mexican amber, and American turquoise is more than geography. It is a shared history of human meaning-making — the impulse, found independently across dozens of cultures and thousands of years, to reach into the earth and find something worth keeping. At JADEscape, we believe that impulse deserves to be honored with transparency, expertise, and care. Every stone we carry is chosen for its origin story as much as its beauty. We know where it came from. We know what it means. And we want you to know too.
